A place where somebody knows your name

Making a little room for company.

Some days are full of messages and short on company.

The conversations are mostly arrangements. Somewhere between the reminders and the replies, you miss simply spending time with someone.

Social connection has a place in how we think about health. In 2025, the World Health Organization’s Commission on Social Connection called for social health to receive the same urgency as physical and mental health. [5]

For everyday life, that is an invitation to give our relationships some room. It might begin with a familiar face on a morning walk or a friend whose company leaves you feeling more like yourself.

Make one plan easier to keep

Think of someone you have been meaning to see. Offer a small, specific plan: “Would you like a 20-minute walk on Sunday morning?” A time and a place give a good intention somewhere to go.

If coordinating diaries always defeats you, suggest something recurring. Breakfast once a month. A short call on the way home. Choose a rhythm you both want and can realistically keep.

If you would like to meet people, look for an activity you can return to, such as a walking group or a volunteering session. A shared activity can give you something to talk about while people become familiar.

Solitude has its place too. You can enjoy quiet and still leave room for company.

At My Yoga Place, the name carries that hope: somewhere familiar, where you feel welcome to return.

Sometimes the thing you need in your week is a person who is pleased to see you.
